Oliver began his career as a performer with Siamsa Tíre, the National Folk Theatre of Ireland. He later became Artistic Director of the company from 2000–2005, during which time he directed:
- Samhain – A Glimpse of the Otherworld
- Oisín – His Legendary Journey to Tír na nÓg
- Oileán – Celebrating the Blasket Islands
During his time with Siamsa Tíre, Oliver toured extensively throughout Ireland, the UK, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, the USA, Canada, and Australia.
The Oliver Hurley School of Musical Theatre
In 2005, Oliver established his own stage school, The Oliver Hurley School of Musical Theatre, where students from across Kerry are trained in drama, singing, and dance.
Awards & Recognition
Oliver has received seventeen nominations at the AIMS National Awards, winning Best Director on four occasions. He also won Best Choreographer for his production of Hot Mikado with Tralee Musical Society.
Events & Festival Work
Alongside his theatrical career, Oliver works extensively in the events industry. He served as Operations Manager of the Rose of Tralee International Festival from 2004 to 2019 and now event‑manages many local events, including:
- Tralee Food Festival
- Christmas in Tralee
- St Patrick’s Day Parade (annual)
